Just because something is hard doesn’t mean you’re not good at it. No one is the master of anything without hard work. Without failure. Without struggle and doubt and pain.
But even if you’re struggling to master something that doesn’t mean you’re not good at it. I’m reminded daily how hard parenting is. I’m reminded of my shortcomings. My failures as a parent feel epic sometimes. But when my oldest son tells me he wants another brother like his current younger brother I know I’m doing something right. At the age of three he already knows to be loved and to love others. That didn’t come from just anywhere.
Good doesn’t mean faultless or perfect. Good means learning. Good means growing. Good means persevering. Life and all the myriad pursuits within it are hard enough without also raking ourselves over the coals for not being perfect at them. Don’t mistake hard for not being good.
