Walks

Dogs love em. Kids love em. Fresh air is good for the soul. A walk is a great way to connect with a loved one or to experience the beauty of the world around you.

One of the best parts about a walk is that you don’t have to have a destination. You can go anywhere you want. You can meander. You can wander and explore. Or you can just walk and talk.

I crave walks more these days because I work at a computer all day. It’s hard to look up when I go outside because I’m used to looking down all day. So I try to leave my phone at home (I don’t always succeed) and I try to look up. See the clouds. The mountains. The trees. Birds. Critters and nature.

I like walking with my son because he’s excited by everything. He wants to touch every bush and throw every rock. He points to things and exclaims in gibberish. It’s a reminder that the world is vast and wondrous.

My dog is 14 years old and still jumps up when I get her leash. The world outside the house is thrilling to her. Things to sniff. Humans and other dogs to encounter. Snow to lick. Grass to munch.

Walks are a free and simple thing to do to take a break from technology and stress and just be in the world. It’s a simple pleasurable form of exercise and a chance to be out in the community. A walk a day keeps the doctor away. Or whatever.

See you out there walking.
