The Beautiful Thing About Curiosity

Kids ask a lot of questions. You’ll answer one and then they’ll have a follow up. Their curiosity is impossible to satisfy and that’s a beautiful thing.

Sometimes it might feel easier to say “I don’t know” or “because I said so.” But that’s a disservice to you and to your kids.

Contrary to what one might think kids are incredible thinkers and communicators. They might not always understand their thoughts or have the right words to describe them. But they inherently know to ask questions.

These incessant questions force us adults to distill big ideas down to their essence. We have to define and redefine words we take for granted. This means we have to peel back the layers and get to the root of an idea to help them understand. Sometimes it helps us understand too.

What an awesome privilege to be the person they think has the answers. That they not only trust us to explain but that they hold us accountable. Kids always know when you’re giving a bullshit response.

Kids are a great example of living curiously. They think big thoughts and scrutinize the world we live in. They never stop seeking to understand.

What a great model for how to approach living in this vast and complex world.
