I was pushing my son on a swing at the local park the other day. As I reached out to meet the swing and push him away again I had the thought that this motion was just like rowing.
Meeting the swing with my hands = the catch
Pushing the swing away = the drive
The swing coming back to me = the recovery
The trick to a good swing is to make sure you time the connection of your hands meeting the swing with the speed the swing is traveling and applying a good solid push without giving your kid a neck injury. It’s all about timing, pressure, and tensing and relaxing in rhythm.
Not getting anywhere on the water? Visit your local park and try the swing. Might even apply if it’s you on the swing yourself kicking your legs and pulling them back to generate more speed and acceleration.
Have fun out there!
Precisely what I’ve started to realize these days – the timing. So glad to see this post and coming from you.
PS. I couldn’t stop laughing when you mentioned on previous post that you’re starting to get pissed off when you have to write a post before bedtime. I’m just glad you wrote this one.
Xoxo,
