The second night of sleep training was harder. It took Lou 2.5 hours to fall asleep. I got frustrated. I was tired. But. We made progress.
Last night was the first time Lou has fallen asleep without one of us holding him or laying next to him. He was so tired and after five minutes I got up and left the room. And. He. Stayed. In. Bed.
And slept!
I was so proud of him I wanted to puke.
Here is what we’ve learned after two nights of sleep training.
Night 1
Me – I’m in control. My son is hilarious and creative and persistent.
Lou – Mom is in control but there for me. Bed is for sleeping. If I open the door I get put back in bed.
Night 2
Me – Lou is adaptable and learns quickly. Consistency is so crucial to making this work.
Lou – If I don’t open the door I don’t get put back in bed right away. I can fall asleep on my own. When I’m tired I can go to sleep.
Tonight is the third night of sleep training. I’m sure it will be hard and present new challenges. But I’m so glad we’ve taken this step as a family and started this learning process.
To anyone going through this yourself I wish you the best! Stay strong.
