Sit With It

The problem isn’t not knowing what to write. The problem is catching the ideas fast enough. Before they disappear into nothingness.

Today I’ve found that quiet time with no distractions like my phone or kids or podcasts has allowed me to hone in enough to capture an idea.

Think about it. We have thousands of thoughts in just one day. When you get to the end of the day how can you possibly parse that much data into a single thread?

You sit to write and nothing comes to you because everything is coming to you all at once. But the trick is to sit with it. Give it time. Let your mind wander without controlling where it tries to narrow to.

And then suddenly as if by magic something will become clear. And that is when you need to seize it. Grab your laptop or notepad or chisel and stone and write. Do not go floss your teeth and tell yourself you will remember it when you get back. You’ve been given a gift of clarity. For the love of god don’t let it go to waste.
