Silly

Not everything has to be so serious or thought provoking. Sometimes it’s worth just as much to make yourself or someone else laugh. Laughter and being silly is a great stress relief and can also provide an environment where people can relax and just be themselves. I’ve shared lots of serious things lately so tonight I’d like to share something silly.

When I was little and even an adult my mom used to do the “walk like an Egyptian” dance from the Bengals video. Maybe it’s not so pc a thing now but it was physical comedy that always cracked me up. She’d make her eyes wide, stick out her arms at right angles one behind and one in front and she’d crouch down a bit at the knees. She’s make this laughing sound that was equal parts freaky and funny and walk back and forth hitting her arms out on either side to no music at all.

It was so silly. Such a happy memory of my mom and her goofy sense of humor. I did it for my son the other day and he laughed so hard. It was a wonderful full circle moment. Remembering my mom and also making my son laugh the same way she used to make me laugh.

I love being goofy with my family and friends. I love cracking jokes and bantering and laughing. It makes me happy to make other people laugh. As my wife would say I “live and die by making people laugh.” That’s how my mom was too. It’s a wonderful trait to have inherited from her and my dad.

It’s important to be silly. To smile and laugh with the people We love. There’s enough hard stuff and sadness and scariness that we have to deal with. Laughter and silliness is a great reprieve from all of that.

Go make someone laugh. Be silly. Let your heart be full.

Thanks for reading.
