If you’re from Ohio you know how to finish that call. It’s silly and comforting and wonderful all at once. It’s where I’m from and a place that I will always call home.
When I flew in to Columbus today I started smiling when I saw all of the Ohio State gear in the airport shops. Maybe you roll your eyes at college football and that’s fine, but for me it represents so much of what I love about this place. Pride. Saying hello to a stranger. Humble beginnings. Family. Connection.
I’m only home for a few days but it’s always good to come back. Fond memories flood my mind as I drive along 315 N. Seeing the Horseshoe in the distance. The street my first apartment was on.
Seems like forever ago I was a freshman at Ohio State having no clue who or what I wanted to be. I formed opinions and relationships and loves here. I found rowing here. I ate Gumby’s Pizza here.
I’m visiting my dad and my brother and his family. I’ll get to see Granville where I spent so much time as a kid. To visit my mom and grandparent’s graves and say hello. This place holds so much of who I am and always will. And I love that. I hope to come back here with my family as much as I can.
It feels good to come home and be where I grew up. And I’m grateful I can make the trip. It’s important to visit where we come from when we can.
IO!
