When you start making mistakes frequently there’s a couple of things likely going on. Either you’re trying to go too fast. Or you’ve got too many moving parts to what you’re doing.
Mistakes are a signal to slow down or streamline.
Sounds easy. But in practice it’s much harder to execute. It is funny that the pain of a bad or inefficient practice is less than the pain caused by making a change that will improve things in the long term. It’s why we don’t quit smoking. Or fail to start exercising. Or generally avoid things that are better for us. We are not good at seeing past the immediate, even when we know things can be better.
Today I made some mistakes. It was a busy day. And I’m exhausted. But it’s good feedback for me. I’m going too fast. And things are too complicated. I was able to streamline some things. But there’s still room to improve.
The goal isn’t to never make a mistake. But to be aware that when they happen there’s a chance to grow, change, and improve. And then do just that.
