Mantra

I think it’s time that I have a mantra again. When I was rowing I had two mantras that kept me motivated and focused. The first was “believe it.” The second was “Love it.”

For the first one I realized that in order to be successful I had to believe I could be. So I taped it to my rigger and every time I put my boat in the water it was there in front of me. Reminding me of my goal. And day by day my belief grew until it was rock solid.

The second one I realized in order to be happy rowing I had to love it. I had gone through a period of doubt and unhappiness that made me question continuing to row. When I found my love for this sport again it made a huge difference in my training.

But now I’ve been mantra-less for years. What’s my focus? What do I need to be happy or productive or successful?

I don’t have the answer yet. But each day that I explore I learn a little more about who I want to be. Curious. Open. Generous. Loving. A leader. A helper. Adaptable.

I’ll keep thinking on it. Once I come up with my mantra I’ll definitely share it with you.

What’s your mantra?
