Make Time

I didn’t get any exercise today aside from the steps I took to and from the bus and around work and home. I was feeling gross and like I wanted to workout when I got home. But I had other things that came first: family, dinner, walking the dog, cleaning. Normally if I can’t fit in at least something hard I just opt not to workout at all. It’s hard to let go of numbers and effort when you train for so long. Everything is kilometers and volume and speed. But tonight I let myself do something easy that ended up being better for me than an intense or long workout.

I’ve been messing around with GMB Fitness for something different. They have and 8 week video series that walks you through movements and progressions focusing on quality of movement not quantity. I decided to give week 1 a try. How hard could 3 simple movements of 30 seconds on 30 seconds off be? Well it ended up being challenging enough to get some sweat going and required enough focus to keep me stimulated. And led to me spending some time focusing on how my body felt, where I had limitations, and relaxing.

In total I moved for 30′ tonight. Which was way more than I was planning on. Here’s what I did:

5′ full body foam rolling

3 x 30″ on 30″ off of plank, half squat, tabletop

18′ of stretching and mobility

1′ seated deep breathing

This is what I did instead of laying in bed watching Bobs Burgers, which is what I am now doing as a reward. How do you make time for movement during your day?
