You’d never take a loaf of bread out of the oven halfway through baking it. You’d end up with a doughy blob you can’t eat. You’ve got to let it bake longer. It takes patience, diligence, and self-awareness.
Ok, we’re not talking about bread here. We’re talking about your ideas. Sometimes you have a great thought but when you start to write it down and explain it you lose momentum. It doesn’t make as much sense as when it popped into your head. You try to force it out, but in your gut you know it’s just not ready.
It’s like the line in Ace Ventura “If I’m not back in five minutes, just wait longer!” There’s a reason patience is a virtue. Good things comes to those who wait, right?
As agonizing as waiting may be, it allows us to understand what it is that we’re trying to achieve. To mull it over. Pick it apart and put it back together into something meaningful and coherent.
Nothing feels worse than rushing something only to find that it doesn’t work. And then, you can’t take it back.
Sometimes the only thing something really needs to be great is time. And time can’t be rushed. If it’s not ready, let it bake longer.
