Ok they aren’t actually bad. But they can get in the way sometimes. It’s fun to come up with new ideas. To spitball and riff. But then coming up with ideas incessantly can become a hindrance to taking action.
We can get so wrapped up in perfecting an idea that we never do anything about it. Never learn. And never have the chance to evolve and iterate.
An idea, even a bad one, can turn in to something good if there is action behind it. Taking steps even if they are small to do something gives us the opportunity to bring ideas to life. And often what we learn by doing changes our original ideas sometimes to the point where what you’ve actually accomplished looks nothing like what you started with. That’s awesome.
Having an idea is a spark. But it needs fuel to create fire. To catch and take hold. To grow and produce heat. And then it needs a system behind it that is self sustaining.
Instead of asking what’s your big idea? How about asking what are you doing next that has a real tangible result? Thinking about taking a walk is a great idea. But you can’t actually walk until you take the first step. And then another. And another. And another. Ideas need legs to come to life.
