A friend messaged me the other day with a suggestion for my blogging. He mentioned that a friend of his writes a bunch of posts all at once and stock piles them to send out later. I’ve considered doing this before to help with posting every day but I’ll tell you why I’m not doing that.
There are a couple benefits to writing this way. One, it’s gives you flexibility to take a day off which comes in handy on a sick day or during vacations. And two it’s gets you in the habit of writing when you’ve got a good idea and not just when you need to post something, which can feel restricting. Two great things that I’ll definitely try to employ at some point in my writing career.
But why am I not doing this now? The biggest reason is because my goal with this year long project is to write every single day. I don’t just want to write a bunch of stuff to post in the future. I want to write daily. To get into the habit. And in order to hold myself to that I can’t rely on work I’ve done the day before.
I want this writing thing to stick. To make it part of my routine. And while I definitely think there is a benefit to writing down all my ideas (good or bad) it’s important to me right now to create a daily writing ritual.
I love how thoughtful my readers are. And I appreciate suggestions like this. They help me clarify my goals but also give me new ones for the future. Thanks to all of you for helping me keep going.
