I want you to do the hard thing. But I don’t think you’re capable. But just in case you’re paying attention I’ll tell you what I want you to do anyway: don’t like this post (1).
If you even read this, which you probably won’t (because the average reader spends about a minute and a half on a post before flitting off into lala land), you probably won’t do the hard thing. You’ll do the easy thing. You’ll hit like even though I’m explicitly telling you: don’t like this post (2).
It’s not your fault really. It’s what you’ve been wired to do. You are a sheep being herded by a more intelligent and manipulative dog. That dog is telling you where to go and when to go and then leading you right to the shears.
You’re also forgetful. You don’t remember what you read or liked. So you keeping liking the same things over and over again.
You can’t stop consuming. You consume, and consume, but the only thing you produce is the digested bits of everyone else’s thoughts.
You aren’t discerning or thoughtful either. You’re a like machine. You produce likes, while everyone else builds.
In fact, you might not even be that intelligent, because you’re liking stuff that’s not intelligent either. It’s drivel. Mindless. But it’s likeable. And that’s all that matters.
Easy is as easy does. Or as Forrest Gump would say “stupid is as stupid does.”
Am I pissing you off yet?
Good. You need to get pissed off because otherwise you’ll remain a sheep. To the algorithms. The social media feeds. Suggestions you don’t want but can’t stop looking at.
Now here’s the crossroads. You have a choice. You can blindly like this post like you always do. Or don’t like this post(3) like I’ve explicitly told you not to do three times now. And then go and actually do something with your day.
It’s up to you. It’s always up to you.
