We make hundreds of decisions every day. Big and small. Conscious and unconscious. Where to walk. What to eat. When to move around. How to respond to an email or ping or interruption. How to divide and prioritize our limited time.
Sometimes what we want and how we want to be come into conflict when making routine decisions. And it’s important to be able to step back for a minute and decide what’s important in the moment and how we want to feel about our decisions.
I try to do everything. And I’m always in problem solving mode. So sometimes I have several competing wants at one time. And it creates tension that sometimes leads to bad communication.
Stepping back and asking myself what’s important right now? How do I want to feel? And who do I want to be? Can really help align my emotions with my decisions.
We have so many responsibilities in life- work, kids, home, pets, friends that it’s hard to squeeze in everything. But having some time to yourself is important and balances out the other things that are important to be present for.
It’s a continual learning process to be able to communicate, prioritize, and decide upon all the myriad things we need to during the day. And you’re not always going to do it perfectly. But understanding what you really want and how you want to be as a person in those moments can help make that process a little easier and more rewarding.
Happy decision making!
