Abundance

It’s easy to focus on what we don’t have. To see our lives through a lens of what we lack. Not enough money. Not enough sleep. Not enough.

But each day presents an abundance of opportunity not just to do but to see. People. Architecture. Graffiti. Clouds. Mountains. Puget Sound. The world is alive with bountiful sights and sounds and smells.

All we have to do is look up or listen. Be present and aware. It’s easy to be stuck staring at our phones and not engaging. And the availability of buying whatever we want right this second creates a sense of always needing something. What really need to do is unplug and take a look around.

  • Even if it’s just on the bus to work. Or you walk a couple extra blocks to another stop. Or looking out the window at the Space Needle in the distance. See it. Hear it. It’s there. Focus on what’s there and less on what isn’t. This simple practice could give you a newfound sense of gratitude that could ease a lot of the stress and anxiety that builds up.
  • Note: I only have myself five minutes to write this so forgive me if it’s verbose or meandering. I don’t know what my point is other than it might be worthwhile to look at things a little differently if you tend to focus on what’s missing.
